Public Healthcare Institution | Permanent | Singapore An established public healthcare institution is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist specialising in Blood Transfusion / Blood Banking to join its Laboratory Medicine team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional with strong immunohaematology and transfusion laboratory experience to take on a senior position covering complex testing, blood component management, quality assurance and staff development. Key Responsibilities Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology - Perform routine and complex immunohaematology testing, including: * Blood grouping * Antibody screening * Antibody identification * Antibody titration * Red cell phenotyping * Crossmatching - Ensure accurate and timely reporting of laboratory results through the Laboratory Information System (LIS) - Receive, process, store and issue blood components according to established protocols - Maintain high standards of accuracy and patient safety throughout transfusion testing processes Blood Bank Operations - Support 24-hour Blood Transfusion Service operations - Perform calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of blood bank equipment - Coordinate equipment servicing where required - Manage inventory of reagents, consumables and laboratory supplies - Ensure adequate stock levels to maintain uninterrupted operations - Maintain laboratory documentation and records Quality & Compliance - Maintain compliance with laboratory quality management systems, accreditation requirements and regulatory standards - Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control programmes - Participate in proficiency testing and External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS) - Develop, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) - Maintain high standards of laboratory safety and regulatory compliance Leadership & Staff Development - Provide training, supervision and guidance to junior laboratory staff - Support competency development and continuous professional education - Participate in departmental educational activities, scientific updates and training programmes - Promote a strong culture of accuracy, quality, teamwork and patient safety Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Life Sciences or equivalent - Relevant hands-on experience in a hospital Blood Transfusion Service / Blood Bank laboratory - Practical experience in immunohaematology testing - Experience with blood grouping, antibody screening/identification and crossmatching - Knowledge of blood component processing, storage and issuance - Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, QA/QC and regulatory requirements - Experience with LIS and blood bank laboratory equipment would be advantageous - Experience training, supervising or guiding junior laboratory staff - Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities - Meticulous with excellent attention to detail and patient safety - Able to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team - Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment - Able to support rostered shifts, weekends, public holidays and on-call duties
