The Finance Manager is responsible for handling the financial and accounting functions of the company, a Singapore-based textile trading business. The role owns financial planning, reporting, cash and trade-finance management, statutory compliance, and internal controls to support profitable trading decisions. 1. Job Purpose
The Finance Manager is responsible for handling the financial and accounting functions of the company, a Singapore-based textile trading business engaged in the import, export and distribution of fabrics, yarns and related textile products. The role owns financial planning, reporting, cash and trade-finance management, statutory compliance and internal controls, and works closely with the Financial Controller and business units to support profitable trading decisions in a fast-moving, multi-faceted trading environment.
2. High-Level Duties (Areas of Responsibility)
• Financial Strategy & Business Partnering – advise management on financial implications of trading decisions, pricing, and new supplier/customer arrangements.
• Financial Planning & Analysis – own budgeting, forecasting and margin analysis across product lines and trading routes.
• Treasury & Trade Finance – manage working capital, banking facilities, letters of credit, trust receipts and foreign exchange exposure.
• Financial Reporting & Compliance – ensure accurate, timely management and statutory accounts inline with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) and regulatory requirements.
• Risk, Controls & Governance – maintain a strong internal control environment, credit risk discipline and fraud prevention.
• Team Leadership – lead, train and develop the finance and accounts team, and manage outsourced service providers (auditors, tax agents, company secretary).
• Systems & Process Improvement – drive automation and continuous improvement of finance and ERP/accounting systems and processes.
3. Critical Duties (Detailed Responsibilities)
3.1 Financial Reporting & Accounting
– Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts, financial statements and board reporting packs within set deadlines.
– Oversee the full accounting cycle – general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, bank reconciliations and month-end/year-end closing.
– Monitoring Inter-company transactions and reconciliation of inter-co balances.
– Thorough scrutiny of Freight bills and identifying reasons for variances, if any.
– Checking bank charges and overheads to ensure its correctness.
– Ensure financial statements comply with Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS) and Companies Act requirements.
– Manage stock/inventory valuation and costing for imported and traded textile goods, including landed cost computation (freight, duty, insurance).
– Coordinate the annual statutory audit and act as primary liaison with external auditors, resolving audit queries and implementing recommendations.
3.2 Cash Flow, Treasury & Trade Finance
– Monitor daily cash position and working capital to ensure sufficient liquidity for purchase of goods, supplier payments and operating expenses.
– Manage trade finance instruments critical to textile trading – Letters of Credit (LC), Trust Receipts (TR), invoice financing, bank guarantees and export documentary credit.
– Maintain and negotiate banking relationships and credit facilities/trade lines with banks and financial institutions.
– Manage foreign exchange exposure arising from USD/other currency purchases and sales, including forward contracts and hedging where appropriate, given the currency risk inherent in textile import/export trading.
– Monitor customer credit terms, credit limits and collections; minimise bad debt and overdue receivables through active credit control.
3.3 Statutory & Tax Compliance
– Manage corporate income tax computations and filings (Form C-S/C) with IRAS, including tax planning and claiming of available reliefs/incentives.
– Ensure compliance with ACRA filing requirements (annual returns, XBRL financial statements) in coordination with the company secretary.
3.4 Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Analysis
– Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic rolling forecasts in collaboration with sales and procurement teams.
– Prepare gross margin and product/customer profitability analysis to support pricing and sourcing decisions.
– Provide variance analysis against budget/forecast and highlight risks and opportunities to management.
– Evaluate the financial viability of new markets, suppliers, customers and business opportunities.
3.5 Internal Controls, Risk & Governance
– Design, implement and monitor internal controls and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across procurement, sales, inventory and cash handling.
– Safeguard company assets and inventory through periodic stock counts, reconciliations and physical verification.
– Assess and mitigate key business risks, including counterparty credit risk, currency risk and inventory obsolescence risk.
3.6 Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
– Supervise, mentor and develop the finance and accounts team; plan workload and set performance objectives.
– Liaise with external auditors, tax agents, company secretary, banks and insurers as the key finance point of contact.
– Support the Financial Controller with ad-hoc financial analysis, board papers and presentations for management and shareholders.
4. Qualifications & Experience
• Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or related field; professional qualification (CPA Singapore, ACCA, CA or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with at least 3–5 years in a managerial capacity.
• Prior experience in a trading company (textiles, commodities, apparel or similar import/export business) strongly preferred.
• Sound working knowledge of Singapore Financial Reporting Standards (SFRS), IRAS tax/GST regulations, ACRA requirements and trade finance instruments (LC/TR).
• Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, ORACLE, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
